    Yikes, smurf cake!
A bit too colorful or my taste.

Thanks Bert! Yes, the blue color is really intense in this year’s cake! All 9 cakes have turned out in various shades of blue. It might not be everyone’s taste, but it’s our unique tradition and we enjoy it! πŸ™‚

Hello, I am not sure if you will see this or be able to help me, but I am writing to you to ask for your recipe for the Blue Cake you blogged about recently with the date 5-29-12. My daughter’s birthday is tomorrow and she has been having a lot of neurology test done to help pin point a seizure problem. I really want to do something special for her birthday and she said she’d like a blue cake. When I typed in “recipes for blue cakes” your picture popped up and she was so excited. I explained to her that “we have to ask” to get this recipe. If you would be willing to help me, it would mean a lot πŸ™‚

    Hi Judy,
    Happy Birthday to your daughter!
Truth be told- this year’s cake was from a box- all I did differently was add blue food coloring to the cake batter and frosting. πŸ™‚ I’ve made others from scratch before but the idea is the always the same- any white cake mix or recipe will do, just add the food coloring. All the best, ~Lisa
