Squealing like a pig.

There is nothing better than getting home after a long and somewhat boring day of German class and discovering a surprise package waiting for me. Such was my luck this afternoon. I unlocked the front door, walked up the four steps to our mailbox area, and there it was.  Predominantly displayed on the ledge above our mail box the brown paper package was waiting for my return with such pride it was as if it knew that it was about to make my day. When I saw it I squealed so much in excitement that I’m surprised that the neighbors didn’t call animal control for fear that a piggy was running lose in the corridors. I took in into my arms and climbed the remaining 80 steps with new-found speed. I couldn’t wait to open it to see what was inside!

Inside I found expat gold- a care package sent by family from the homeland. The package contained: cookie mix, Mad Libs, a pen from my cousin’s school, valentine’s day candy, a picture of my little baby cousin (or, technically first cousin once-removed, if you are in the Keppel family and care about that sort of thing), and a little note of encouragement. It was such a sweet gesture and came at perfect timing as Drew is away at a conference this week and the weekend is just beginning. What a mood lifter! Thank you so much Shauna!

Shauna’s gift reminded me of how easy it is to make someone’s day. In effort to pay it forward a little, I’ve created the following challenge:

Blue Cakes Blog Reader Challenge:

Take a few minutes this weekend to bring a smile to someone’s face by letting the person you pick know that you are thinking of them. You don’t even have to send a package- a hand written card, or thoughtful email go a long way.

Are you in?

I’m off to bake cookies. Have a great weekend!

Just so you know we’re not the only ones who “care about that sort of thing,” here is a Pearls cartoon from 5 months ago… Enjoy the laugh while you are eating your cookies!

Yay! I’m so glad it arrived! We had fun picking out things to put inside. I have no idea how they actually fit 300 chocolate chips inside each of those bags (must be small), but still they are chocolate chips! Happy early Valentine’s Day!
